The successful applicant will work to increase the value of IEEE’s impact on STEM education at the pre-university level across the globe. This role will lead the development, implementation and delivery of STEM educational resources for the IEEE. Existing programs include online resources at TryEngineering.org like lesson plans, games, and career profiles that receive usage in the millions annually. You will also be a key leader in the development and scaling of new programs like TryEngineering Together (online mentoring in partnership with Cricket Media), and TryEngineering Summer Camps (residential camps designed for high school age students). The resources primarily target teachers and students, and also raise the general public’s awareness of engineering and technology.
Primary responsibilities will include recommending requirements, managing existing projects and developing new programs to improve IEEE’s pre-university STEM education resources. The role typically reports to the Director, Student and Academic Education Programs and manages no direct reports. The role does manage a number of relationships with external vendors to execute many tasks required for the role. This position works under minimal guidelines on overall business strategies and objectives; and is a part of the Educational Activities team within IEEE.
Education and Experience:
An undergraduate degree, or higher in education, engineering, communications or related field.
Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of current educational trends in STEM curriculum and instruction Experience in developing online educational content.
Experience as a classroom educator or work in informal education, i.e. science and technology museums or centers a strong plus.
Project or program management experience required.
Strong computer skills are a must.
Experience using content management systems and other web-based publishing tools.
Experience working with third parties to manage online programs and content development a strong plus.
Proficiency with social media is required.
Experience with developing and managing budgets.
Experience in writing grants is a plus.
Knowledge of Education Standards is desired.
Knowledge of instructional design desirable.
7+ yrs of relevant experience.
Skills & Other Requirements:
Demonstrated success as a self-starter.
Ability to apply business discipline to program management.
Ability to create and present presentations, proposals, contracts, reports, web content, articles, lesson plans, and content appropriate for pre-university audiences.
Ability to understand written contracts, proposals, research reports etc.
Ability to communicate and interact positively and effectively with volunteers, members of the Educational Activities Board of Directors, business and industry representatives, IEEE staff members at all levels of the IEEE and the pre-university education community.
Ability to negotiate contracts with vendors and consultants.
Ability to identify, analyze and document issues related to user-interface, content, access and quality of pre-university education resources and develops recommendations for resolution.
Experience negotiating consensus in situations with numerous stakeholders.
Research and development expertise to help guide the best course of action.
