The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Housing Maintenance Supervisor in the maintenance, improvement, and expansion of all student residential facilities managed by Housing & Residence Life (10) and the University Foundation (4). High concentration and focus is placed on maintenance and repair of residential facilities during peak season (May-August) to prepare them for students return in the new academic year. The incumbent will perform maintenance and repairs and preventative maintenance as assigned; provide leadership to an expanded multi-trade staff which may include issuing job assignments; ensuring standard operating procedures are followed; assist with the interview/selection process, completion of evaluations and disciplinary actions; as well as act in the absence of the shop supervisor.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Physical Plant is responsible for providing services relative to buildings and grounds maintenance, utilities, transportation, trash removal, central receiving, recycling, disposition of surplus property and moving and hauling. In addition the Physical Plants expanding responsibilities include providing support services for the instruction and research programs to achieve the University's mission, goals and objectives. Maintain, improve and expand all campus buildings, campus image and educational opportunities for all people. More specifically, the functions involve energy conservation, building renovation/repair, occupational safety and health, landscape design, event planning, vehicle and equipment maintenance/repair, motor pool and housekeeping services to 126 academic buildings, fourteen residences and seven farm buildings. Moreover, the Moreover, Housing Maintenance is directly responsible for maintenance, repair and preventive maintenance of all student residential facilities.

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Three to five years of experience specializing in a specific trade; working knowledge of other trades (carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electrical).
Ability to use this knowledge effectively and readily in the execution or performance of the trade.
Knowledge of standard practices and methods of the electrical trade. Ability to work from blue prints, sketches, locate and correct defects in equipment or electrical systems. Completion of National Electrical code courses or other related courses in the electrical field. Skilled in use and care of equipment. Ability to diagnose trouble and repair appropriately.
Leadership experience with the ability to follow, as well as, give clear instructions and ideas.
Ability to work well with others and assist in the fulfillment of the University's maintenance and repair of student residence halls and other areas as assigned; ability to follow standard operating procedures and adhere to state codes and regulations.
