The Systems Administrator III (Lead Infrastructure Systems Engineer) is responsible for providing technical leadership for infrastructure administration projects or services. Routinely provide technical oversight for the application of and compliance with technical standards. May coordinate the technical activities of an infrastructure administration support team. Complete reports and summaries for management and/or users including project status reports, problem reports, and progress summaries.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five years of systems administration experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with a diverse range of people.
Must have strong interpersonal skills.
Provide on-call support on nights and weekends, as needed.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Experience with any of the following: Microsoft Active Directory; Microsoft Exchange, SCCM, or Lync (Skype for Business); Solar Winds; Citrix or F5 load balancer administration; VMware administration; Linux server administration.
Advanced cross-disciplined IT skills; skills in project management, mentoring, negotiation skills, basic vendor relations, advanced client relations, proposal writing, business acumen, persuasive communication, adaptability to change, team leadership, quality assurance methodologies, and knowledge of ITIL.
Preferred Licenses, and Certifications:
ITIL Foundations, PMP.
Provide technical guidance and oversight for infrastructure system administration. Lead the design of new infrastructure systems or upgrades and help oversee implementation. Deploy and configure large and complex infrastructure systems; develop complex system logic and configuration; and conduct complex infrastructure system performance analyses and tuning. Coordinate routine audits of systems and software. Oversee adherence to standards for operation procedures used for infrastructure system installations and upgrades.
Oversee and coordinate the analysis of system logs. Help coordinate and monitor the problem management process to include backup support. Troubleshoot complex network problems. Provide Tier III support.
Provide technical oversight for the development of plans for large infrastructure hardware and software purchases. Develop specifications and plans for large and complex purchases of infrastructure systems.
Coordinate the evaluation of new technologies. Make recommendations based on the evaluation of new technologies for their applicability to the client s needs.
Collaborate with the project leader to develop work plans and time schedules for projects including outlining phases and identifying personnel and computing equipment requirements. Monitor the work of contractors and vendors to ensure quality services.
Oversee the maintenance of infrastructure system security, and for protecting and recovering client data. Design infrastructure system security measures and data backup and protection methods. Develop disaster recovery plans for infrastructure systems. Oversee adherence to standards for operation procedures used for infrastructure system backups and recovery.
Create, evaluate, and approve plans for the implementation of new technology deployments and system integration testing.
Oversee the process used to document infrastructure support methods, procedures, and configuration.
May coordinate the technical activities of a project team; complete reports and summaries for management and/or users including status reports, problem reports, progress summaries, and system utilization reports; serve as a senior member of an information resource team responsible for setting technical direction; and perform all or some of the duties of a Senior Infrastructure Systems Administrator.
Participate in training and professional development sessions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
