The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the University of New Haven invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in chemical engineering. The expected starting date is August 20, 2018.
Responsibilities: Teaching undergraduate chemical engineering courses including the senior design or laboratory courses; teaching multidisciplinary engineering foundation courses. The ideal candidate will have an interest in helping to launch and participate in teaching courses in a new interdisciplinary graduate program in Sustainable Energy Systems. Furthermore, the successful candidate is expected to develop a research program in his or her area of expertise involving undergraduate chemical engineering students. Engineering education research is also valued. Scholarly publications and grant writing to establish funded research is expected. Service at the program, departmental, college and university levels on various working groups and committees, is also expected. Other duties may include working with corporations to secure industry- sponsored design projects; outreach/recruiting and laboratory development work.
Program Profile: The B. S. Chemical Engineering Program at the University of New Haven was started during the 1980’s and is unique nationwide in that it resides in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, which affords considerable teaching and research collaboration with chemistry faculty. There are also ample opportunities for industrial collaboration in the area. There are currently four full-time chemical engineering faculty and over 70 students in the B.S. ChE Program.
B.S. and PhD in Chemical Engineering or closely related fields. A commitment to teaching excellence, active-learning and student engagement; strong communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to collegiality and teamwork. Prior teaching experience and industrial experience will be considered favorably. Priority will be given to candidates with expertise in areas related to sustainable energy. Authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
