Position Summary: The Harvard Green Building Services program provides sustainable building consulting services to the Harvard community, including existing facility owners, capital project teams, and other units. Consulting services encompass a range of offerings to ensure cost effective green buildings that provide improved indoor environments for occupants and reduce harmful effects on the natural environment. These services include owner's sustainability representation, sustainability peer review, project management of the US Green Building Council's (USGBC's) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification process, commissioning, energy auditing, ECM implementation support, green building knowledge management, and green building education and training. This position is responsible for supporting the GBS team as they facilitate green building design, construction and operations across campus. The position will assist GBS as they provide building commissioning, energy auditing, energy conservation measure project management, and green building consulting services and create and deliver green building educational materials. There will be a large learning component as the employee is exposed to a variety of different tasks and works to gain full proficiency and fluency in these tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Report directly to the Associate Director, Green Building Services;
Support the building commissioning, sustainability consulting and LEED project management services of GBS by assisting with drafting commissioning documents, preparing LEED documentation as needed, supporting the larger GBS team in LEED projects, and assisting with functional testing;
Provide project support for green building consulting and LEED certification services to project teams and clients throughout Harvard University;
Attend project meetings and assist the GBS team as they work to ensure thoroughness and accountability in delivering sustainable design, construction, and operations projects;
Assist the GBS team in developing program-specific tools and templates;
Work with GBS staff to create green building educational materials and organize and deliver training and best practice sharing events;
Support the GBS team in implementing the Harvard Green Building Standards by reviewing projects to ensure guidelines are being met;
Research emerging technologies and standards as needed;
Participate as an active member of the overall GBS team, generally contributing to the well-being of the organization, including supporting other Campus Services efforts;
Provide support to special projects (short and long-range), initiatives, and tasks as assigned Proactively study sustainability and technical materials to assist in performing job

A related undergraduate and/or graduate degree, such as mechanical or electrical engineering, and/or architecture, or two (2) years of experience working in the design, engineering or construction industry;
Two (2) years of working knowledge of building mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems including time at school;
Previous experience working as a member of a team;
Professional experience or working knowledge of construction administration, specification writing, and construction documents and drawings;
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Ability to complete basic energy savings calculations using reference materials;
Physical Requirements: Must be physically fit and mentally alert at all times. Must be able to climb stairs or ladders and routinely walk between buildings. Must be able to bend, stoop and kneel for extended periods. Must be able to frequently walk up and down stairs, ladders, etc. on an ongoing basis, in an industrial plant and/or construction site setting. Required to wear personal protective equipment where necessary.
Advanced degree in a related field;
Previous experience with energy modeling;
Previous experience with building commissioning;
Previous experience with LEED project management;
Previous experience with sustainable design consulting;
Previous experience with high performance buildings and a broad range of sustainable technologies;
Previous experience in developing and maintaining strong client relationships across a highly decentralized university management structure;
Familiarity with the US Green Building Council's LEED Existing Buildings Operations and Maintenance rating system, ASHRAE standards, and life cycle costing process;
Designation of LEED Green Associate or Accredited Professional designation;
Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD, Revit, eQUEST, Energy Plus, Photoshop, or building automation system interfaces (e.g. Siemens Apogee).
