Position Summary: The Harvard Green Building Services program provides sustainable building consulting services to the Harvard community, including existing facility owners, capital project teams, and other units. Consulting services encompass a range of offerings to ensure cost effective green buildings that provide improved indoor environments for occupants and reduce harmful effects on the natural environment. These services include owner's sustainability representation, sustainability peer review, project management of the US Green Building Council's (USGBC's) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification process, commissioning, energy auditing, ECM implementation support, green building knowledge management, and green building education and training. This position is responsible for facilitating green building design, construction and operations projects, such as LEED certification administration, building commissioning, energy auditing, energy conservation measure project management, and other general sustainable building consulting services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Report directly to the Associate Director, Green Building Services;
Lead green building projects, including LEED certification management for capital projects and existing buildings, building commissioning, ASHRAE Level II energy audits, measurement and verification, and other general sustainable building consulting projects;
Provide high-quality sustainable building consulting deliverables to Harvard schools and units, including life cycle cost calculations, technical review comments, energy conservation measures, energy audit reports, commissioning reports, energy calculations, etc.;
Act as a primary client contact for select green building projects and ensure high-quality services are delivered in a timely and responsive manner;
Attend school/unit meetings to ensure thoroughness and accountability in delivering sustainable design, construction, and operations projects;
Review mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings and specifications, and coordinate with other Campus Services departments to recommend opportunities for increased efficiency and reduced environmental impact;
Proactively communicate project status updates and progress to GBS management team and others;
Assist in implementation the Harvard Green Building Standards by supporting schools/units and reviewing documents and deliverables to ensure projects are achieving compliance;
Create, or support the creation of, green building educational materials and organize and deliver training and best practice sharing events;
Research emerging technologies and standards as needed;
Participate as an active member of the overall GBS team, generally contributing to the well-being of the organization, including supporting other Campus Services efforts;
Proactively study sustainability and technical materials to assist in performing job;
Lead special projects (short and long-range), initiatives, and tasks as assigned

A related undergraduate and/or graduate degree, such as mechanical or electrical engineering, architecture, and/or construction management or at least 5 years' direct experience in one of the above fields.
Demonstrated professional experience with building mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems,
Ability to complete advanced energy savings calculations;
Technology Skills Required: Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Project, Visio, Access, and PowerPoint, and the ability to learn software such as Revit, eQUEST, Energy Plus, Photoshop, AutoCAD, and others.
Advanced degree preferred;
Be a proactive, self-starter with a passion for green building;
Excellent team skills, able to understand and synthesize the thoughts of others, able to work in a fast-paced, continually adapting work environment, experience with computer based work, and a very fast learner;
Demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities;
Demonstrated analytical experience;
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the capacity for developing and maintaining strong client relationships across a highly decentralized university management structure;
Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn new technical skills quickly and efficiently
Familiarity with the LEED rating systems, IPMVP, ANSI WSIP, ASHRAE Commercial Building Energy Audits, ASHRAE Guideline 0, ASHRAE 90.1, ASHRAE 62.1, ASHRAE 55, and related green building related standards and guidelines;
Designation of AEE Certified Energy Auditor or Certified Energy Auditor in Training;
Designation of LEED Accredited Professional;
Professional experience/working knowledge of construction administration, specification writing, and construction documents and drawings;
Previous experience creating or reviewing building energy models;
Previous experience managing the LEED certification administration process for a project;
Previous experience acting as a sustainable design consultant for a range of building types;
Familiarity with the US Green Building Council's LEED rating system
Professional experience with high performance buildings and a broad range of sustainable technologies.
